ABOUT I.SAWAN RESIDENTIAL SPA & CLUB
The fifth floor of the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok is an open space transformed into an idyllic landscape that exudes an ambience of tranquillity and peace. Lined with pea gravel, green hedgerows, bamboo and frangipane trees. i.sawan Residential Spa & Club, whose name translates into the fifth level of heaven, was envisioned by famous American interior designer Tony Chi to be a garden in the sky. Sprawled beneath 7,000 square metres of verdant canopy are picturesque spa cottages, treatment bungalows, a fitness centre with swimming pool and a restaurant connected by a labyrinth of quiet walkways. Towering high above the busy streets, i.sawan is a blissful refuge from the hustle-bustle of the city below.
Being a residentail spa, i.sawan presents a new accommodation experience boasting six luxurious spa cottages, where guests can stay overnight or spend a few days of unhindered indulgence. Each is a peaceful hideaway, complete with a bedroom, a treatment room, a bathroom, a rain shower and a scrub table basked in the solitude of nature and safely tucked away from urban rigours. Given the privacy at hand, many might find in-cottage dining a tempting option. Built on a smaller scale are nine treatment bungalows designed for day therapies, of which three have a terrace and twin treatment beds for two, while the rest are for single occupancy. Their clean and contemporary interiors lulled by gentle music in the background are set to leave guests in a stage of absolute relaxation. The spa's expert therapists carry out the treatments using Comfort Zone, Italy's top skin-care brand used at all Hyatt spas.
Relaxing and beneficial, on top of being result oriented, are the core of the treatments here. They merge the revitalising powers of science and nature, and with each session a sense of well-being and physical comfort are restored. THe diverse a la carte spa menu spans facial treatments, body envelopments, body exfoliation and massages which are categorised into four groups to target different areas of concern. Purity treatments detoxify the body, Energy stimulates the inner strength, Harmony establishes a balance between the body, mind and spirit, while Thai reinvigorates the body with traiditional massage.
A recommended treatment is Essence of i.sawan which works on the inner tissues to speed up the body's recovery from pollutants. While Oriental Foot Massage balances energy flow, body exfoliation such as Lemongrass and Apricot Polish or Sesame Seed and Almond Polish purify and nourish the skin using extracts of natural ingredients. Marine Body Envelopment blends essential oils with cooling algae for their detoxifying benefits, and is used to treat specific areas of the body. For the face there are anti-ageing treatments like Man Space for men, or whitening ones that incorporate the most unique ingredients like pearl and flower extracts.
The two most-noted treatment packages at i.sawan are the Retreat full-day and Escape Half-day Spa, each presenting a unique combination of Purity, Energy, Harmony and Thai treatments. The Energy programme is the Retreat package encompasses a fitness assessment and personalised training sessions at the Greenhouse fitness centre normally reserved for members, as well as grants access to the tennis and squash courts. Escape however allows the use of the swimming pool, sauna, steamroom and jacuzzi only. The full-day programme also includes a two-course meal and non-alcoholic beverage either for lunch or dinner at Breezeway.
The Nail Bar, a brightly lit manicure and pedicure centre, affords the same relaxed tone that embodies the i.sawan spirit. The menu offers a myriad of choices, from a quick, 30-minute nail-shopping and polishing session to an hour of scrub, mask and massage treatments which also help to heal dry and irritated skin. Paraffin Therapy submerges the hands and feet into an emollient warm wax to soften the skin and boost the blood circulation. As for the nails, the treatment list is extensive, including extension, acrylic glitter for the underarms, legs, eyebrows and back, as well as the bikini area. The pampering programmes continue at The Hair Salon for both men and women. This intimate salon offers standard cutting and blow-drying services, and hair-care treatments.
Besides its spa services i.sawan promotes physical stamina, and guests can take advantage of its fitness centre by becoming a member of Club i.sawan. The glass-fronted Greenhouse fitness centre gymnasium houses advanced technological amenities such as Italy's Technogym endurance and strength equipment. The adjoining fitness studio provides space for aerobics, holistic and yoga classes, in addition to two squash courts, and outdoor tennis court, a walking trail and a 25-metre swimming pool. When exhausted, there is the Juice Bar to replenish lost energy with an array of nutritious drinks. The changing and relaxing rooms too offer more than standard services on top of lockers and grooming stations with the highlights being the sauna, the steam room and hot and cold plunge pools.
Without leaving their rooms Grand Hyatt Bangkok's in-house guests can also experience the essece of i.sawan. The spa concierge can prepare special bath treatments inspired by indigenous healing traditions. The Thai Herbal set combines exotic ingredients such as papaya juice, plai powder, ginger root, jasmine, mint leave and jasmine for a de-stressing effect. Others include Exotic Flower, Honey and Milk and Citrus.
